Another major focus of our work is the assistance and support of end-users in flexible process-aware information systems (PAISs).

Change Reuse and Derivation of Process Type Changes

In previous work we addressed the question how knowledge about process changes can captured such that it can be reused in similar situations. Our approach supports the memorization of instance deviations including their application context and the semi-automated retrieval of similar instance changes using conversational case-based reasoning. During case retrieval the application context is considered (to ensure that no irrelevant deviations are suggested to the user) as well as the status of the process instance to be modified (to ensure that reuse of changes does not violate existing correctness criteria). Furthermore, process engineers are supported in deriving process type changes and continuously improve the business process over time.

Balancing Flexbility and Support through Recommendations

Our work on process recommendations is also aiming at user assistance in highly flexible PAISs. In this work we are using execution logs of PAISs to gain insights into the process being supported and to provide recommendations to the user about how she should proceed with a particular process instance depending on the execution state of that process instance and its performance goal (e.g., minimizing cycle time).
